Our head of Business Development, Amina Albeyatti, was recently interviewed by WTF Health at the Giant Health Event, in London November of 2018.

Amina expertly covered many aspects of the health informatics dilemma facing much of the health sector and how Medicalchain is poised to resolve these issues.

Inside Perspective

Steven Ankri, Head of UX & Design.

Through this section, we will provide an insight into the project, including the people behind the scenes who are working hard to make this vision a reality.

Whenever you view our logo, our website, or even our applications; everything you see will have gone through our UX team. You will already be familiar with his work but it still bears saying that head of UX & Design, Steven Ankri, is a proven dab hand at all things aesthetic and will sign off all work with aplomb.

Interview with Head of UX & Design, Steven Ankri:

What attracts you to working in the health sector and in particular health innovation?

My mission, as a UX designer, is to help people’s lives by providing them with useful and accessible applications. I am grateful to work in the health sector because I have the opportunity to connect with patients and practitioners to understand their needs and provide the best product and experience.

In addition, the health sector is an area that has changed significantly in recent years, particularly in terms of regulation, services and technological innovations. It’s a new world and there is everything to build. It is a challenge for me to imagine and propose tomorrow’s solutions that will be essential for people.

Was it always an ambition of yours to work in health innovation?

Innovation and new technologies (VR, AR …) have always fascinated me, whatever the sector.

Previously, I worked for a sensitive data storage company that tried new ways to protect people’s personal information. It was exciting because I conceptualized and built real objects (electronic bracelets, necklace, etc.). It was not just digital applications.

The benefit of health innovation is that we do our best to simplify the patient’s life on their day to day and to ultimately extend it in the long term.

Is there a particular skill set necessary for working in the health industry?

Indeed, we must have a good knowledge of the market, our competitors and UX / UI trends.

Before designing our solution, we must study what exists, what are the problems and how we can solve them.

There is also the GDPR regulation that requires us to carefully handle the data we collect and display. This is to preserve the privacy of the user.

Finally, we must follow the habits and customs of the health sector, such as the way we talk to patients.

Which skills in particular from your last job, are most transferable to your role at Medicalchain?

As part of my previous duties, I gained a solid background in interface design and the ability to create a design system. This allows us to list all the elements of our interface, from the smallest (typography, colour, shape …) to the largest (component, module …) to use for our next products. We develop our visual identity, we benefit through our productivity and so we can evolve more quickly.

I have also organized workshops with different departments of the company to, for example, create a new product or understand the flow of users.

What do you find most challenging about working for a company trying to reshape the future of healthcare?

The challenge is to understand the needs of our users to make sure we make the right choices for patients and practitioners. We are a recent startup and we do not have all the resources we would like to have, especially for the UX domain (eg: data). Fortunately, we work closely with many doctors like Abdullah Albeyatti (co-founder of Medicalchain), which allows us to have a global vision of the medical field.

When I think of the future of healthcare, I have a lot of projects in mind, mainly the interaction between the patient and the IOT. Although it would be very exciting to do something like that, I have to stay focused on our current task and move forward step by step.

How does your excitement for the Medicalchain mission compare to other projects you have worked on?

I’m thrilled to be part of the Medicalchain adventure. It is a pleasure for me to be responsible for the design and user experience of our products.

It’s always a challenge to be in a startup that has everything to prove, to see it grow and to reap success. Besides, I started from scratch and that makes everything more exciting and rewarding than my previous projects.

Tell us about some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I am a big football fan, although I prefer to play instead of watching. I found a group of nice people in Shoreditch and we play every week. In addition, being new to London (I’m from Paris originally), I try to go out every weekend to discover new restaurants, cool places and exhibitions.
